8-Week Learning Plan

A phased, stress-free way to prepare

To make the most of the MaRRS Zoom Zoom Math Challenge, consistency is more important than "cramming." Since this competition spans several rounds, a phased approach helps your child stay sharp without feeling overwhelmed.

Here is a recommended 8-Week Learning Plan that aligns with the competition structure.

The Competition Roadmap

A clear foundation phase followed by a focused level-up phase keeps children confident and competition-ready.

The Competition Roadmap

Phase 1: The Foundation (Weeks 1–4)
Focus: Mastering the Preliminaries & Building Confidence

During this phase, the goal is to familiarize your child with the format and ensure they have a solid grasp of their grade-level basics.

Download & Audit: Immediately download the Free Learning Material. Spend the first two days looking through it together to see which topics are "easy" and which need a bit more work.
The 15-Minute "Sprint": Set aside 15 minutes a day.
KG Students: Practice verbal counting, basic addition/subtraction stories, and shape identification out loud.
Grades 1–8: Solve 5–10 problems from the study material using a timer to get used to the "Online Test" feel.
Weekly Review: Every Sunday, do a "Mini-Challenge" where your child explains one math concept back to you. (Teaching is the best way to learn!)
Phase 2: The Level-Up (Weeks 5–8)
Focus: Accuracy and Speed for the National Championships

Since qualification for the Jumbo Nationals depends on the average percentile of the four National rounds, every point counts here!

Simulate the Test: For Grades 1–8, have them take a practice set on a computer or tablet. Comfort with clicking, scrolling, and navigation matters.
For KG: Conduct "Mock Oral Rounds." Sit across from them and ask questions clearly, encouraging confident responses.
Focus on the "Gap" Topics: Use results from the Preliminary rounds to identify sticky areas and spend extra time there.
Mental Math Magic: Integrate math into daily life—calculate totals at the store or figure out change.

The "Power Hour" Routine

Use this simple structure for your daily 15–20 minute sessions:

Time Activity Goal
0–5 mins Mental Warm-up Quick-fire math facts to wake up the brain
5–15 mins Target Practice Work through 2 pages of the MaRRS Learning Material
15–20 mins The "I Got It!" Review Child explains the hardest problem they solved

Pro-Tips for Success

Celebrate the "Near Misses": If they get a hard question wrong, celebrate the effort and ask, "What did we learn from this one?"
Use the School Connection: Practicing for Zoom Zoom also helps ace school exams.
Consistency Wins: 10 minutes every day beats 2 hours once a week.
